The retwist process step-by-step
Every appointment begins with a clarifying loc wash to remove buildup, followed by a complimentary steam treatment to hydrate and soften the roots. The steam makes the hair more pliable so the stylist can work efficiently while preserving integrity. Note: the listed appointment time excludes 45–60 minutes of dryer time after service.
After washing and steaming, each loc is retwisted at the root to tighten and align the emergency new growth for a smooth, uniform finish. Technicians focus on consistent tension and patterning so shoulder-length locs sit neatly. If matting is present, a $25 fee applies; more than 120 locs adds a $50 fee and 30–40 minutes.
Factors that shape final results
Hair condition, loc size and how recently maintenance was performed all affect the outcome and speed of your retwist. Clients who keep regular maintenance see neater results and shorter appointments; severely matted or neglected locs require extra time and may incur the matting fee listed above.
Local climate and lifestyle matter: Indianapolis’s humid summers and variable seasons change texture and frizz levels, so timing matters. Many clients schedule retwists ahead of summer trips, weddings or school seasons; May, June, August and December tend to be the busiest months for fresh maintenance.
Preparing for your appointment
Arrive with dry or lightly damp hair unless otherwise instructed; the service includes a clarifying wash and steam so you don’t need to pre-wash. Plan for the listed 90 MINUTES of chair time and remember the 45–60 minute dryer window occurs outside that appointment window, which may affect total time at the salon.
SkyLocs is convenient for clients commuting along I-465 or East 56th Street and for families balancing school drop-offs or after-work schedules. If you need time for nearby errands or a walk at Fort Harrison State Park, schedule with the dryer time in mind so your day flows around the extra drying period.
